An Action Research on Teaching in Design Focusing on Aesthetic in Life to Lower Graders in the Elementary School
Through the method of action research , the study attempts to develop a design curriculum centering on the issues of aesthetic in life , which comprises 4 units and 9 instructional activities.
Specifically , the objectives of the study are as follows:
(a) to investigate the principles of curriculum and instructional methods for teaching in design focusing on aesthetic in life to lower graders.
(b) to develop a curriculum and instructional methods for teaching in design focusing on aesthetic in life to lower graders.
(c) to examine the feasibility and influences of the curriculum mentioned
The conclusions of the study include:
(a) The design curriculum, featuring the consideration of developmental appropriateness and cooperative learning, is effective in promoting the student’s ability and attitude in aesthetic in life.
(b) The curriculum utilizing life issues as teaching content , multiple teaching resources and inter- rating evaluation , as
well as visiting restaurant in community and beautification of the house, can improve student’s achievement in the domains of cognition , skills, and affection.
(c) The curriculum is proved to be suitable and inspiring for the lower graders development in design and aesthetic in life.
Finally, the study made suggestions for future implementation of design education and research related issues.
