Summary: | 碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 特殊教育學系碩士班 === 93 === The purpose of this study was to examine the efficiency of brief functional analysis on stereotypical behavior of adults with mental retardation. The multielement design, reversal design and multiple baseline across conditions reversal design of the single-subject approach were conducted. The independent variables were the brief functional analysis conditions , analogue functional analysis conditions, and treatment. The dependent variables were the stereotypical responses.
The participants were twelve adults with mental retardation. First, the functional interview, direct observation, and brief functional analysis were conducted. Second, two out of these twelve participants were chosen at simple random and accepted extended analogue functional analysis. Third, the treatment was conducted. Visual inspection was used to assess the efficiency of brief functional analysis and the effect of treatment on the stereotypical behavior of these subjects.
The results of this study were summarized as follows:
1. Brief functional analysis found out the functions of the participants’ stereotypical behavior.
2. Compared with analogue functional analysis efficiency, brief functional analysis seemed sufficient to find out the functions of the participants’ stereotypical behavior according to the fact that undifferentiated results of brief functional analysis and analogue functional analysis were reached.
3. The treatment reduced the frequency of the participants’ stereotypical behavior.
