In this study, 32 chrysanthemum varieties were evaluated using ISSR (Inter simple sequence repeat) DNA markers. The aims of the work were to assess genetic similarity among the varieties and to survey the information markers. Samples comprised of 16 species of summer chrysanthemum and 16 species of autumn chrysanthemum. For summer species, there were 126 polymorphic bands produced by 14 ISSR-primers. Genetic similarity among 16 samples was detected from 0.29 to 0.77, and the mean similarity was 0.43. The cluster analysis by UPGMA (Un-weighted Pair-group Mean Arithmetic) revealed that there are three major groups can be recognized. With same primers, there were 124 polymorphic bands produced in autumn species analyzed, and two major groups can be recognized in cluster analysis. Genetic similarity among 16 samples was detected from 0.23 to 0.53, and the mean similarity was 0.32. The results of ISSR suggested that among the dinucleotides motifs, the poly(AC)n motif was more abundant and gave the largest number of polymorphism bands.
