Abstract
The purposes of this study were to investigate English achievement task values of junior high school students, and to explore the relationships among parents’ educational attitudes, teacher expectations, career aspirations, and achievement task values of junior high school students.
1, 034 junior high school students in central Taiwan were selected randomly to participate in the study. All the participants completed the Parents’ Educational Attitudes Scale, the Teacher Expectations Scale, the Education and Career Aspirations Scale, and the English Academic Learning Attitudes Scale. The data was analyzed by applying descriptive statistics, ANOVA, t-test, MANOVA, Pearson’s product-moment correlation and canonical correlation.
The conclusions of the study were summarized as follows.
1. Junior high school students have the five subjective achievement task values to maintain their persistence at English academic tasks.
2. Younger Junior high school students value the subjective task values higher.
3. Gender difference in task values indicated that female students have higher assessment than male students.
4. Junior high school students’ parents have higher positive educational attitudes toward lower grade and male children .
5. Teacher expectations of students’ perception decrease with students’ grade, and of female students’ perception are higher than male students’.
6.Gender difference was not found in students’ career aspirations.
7.Correlations among students’ parents educational attitudes, teacher expectations, career aspirations, and achievement task values were found significant.
8.Parents educational attitudes, teacher expectations, career aspirations affects junior high school stduents’ task values through「socializers’ positive regards—academic cherishment 」.
9.Parents educational attitudes, teacher expectations, career aspirations affects junior high school stduents’ task values through 「socializers’ career expectancy—academic utility 」.
Based on the above results, discussions and implications were provided for practice and future research.
