Summary:碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 教育研究所 === 93 === Chinese classical academies, which have been in existence for more than a thousand years, incessantly in practice from the Tang Dynasty to Ching, clearly indicate the major objectives of knowledge dissemination, and character education which mold the personality and demeanor of individuals, emphasizing the significance of “complete education” (education in a whole). According to the research, conventional classical academies are equipped with certain traits as follows: 1. intimate interaction between tutor and tutee 2. focus on the reverence for mentors, emphasizing character education 3. multiple ways of learning, the preservation and safeguarding for liberty 4. the emphasis on environmental education 5. the emphasis on potential courses inspiration The objective, also the conclusion of this paper suggests that by adding or referring to some of the most essential fundaments of classical/traditional education, adopting the existing culture which leads to the nowadays society when trying to revise or modify the education system, we may certainly find the best solution and paradigm that serves as the standard of today’s character education and model of teacher-student relationships. Thus, building sound and wonderful minds, responsible, engaging and active citizens for the coming century shall not be a dream.
