Planning biotechnology R&D professions is the key element of successful biotechnology industry development. The main purpose of the study was to explore the personality traits, incentive systems and organizational commitments of biotechnology R&D professions. Four hundred and fifty questionnaires were sent to the Biotechnology R&D professionals usable questionnaires returned, with 56% valid return rate. The data were collected and analyzed by using descriptive statistics analysis, t-test, one-way MNOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation, Kruskal-Wallis tests and multiple stepwise regression. According to the findings, the conclusions were summarized as follows: 1. The development of Taiwan’s biotechnology industry will focus on genetic engineering, cell engineering, Chinese herbal medicines, and service biotech industry. 2. The personality traits of biotechnology R&D professions were significantly different within their ages, education, locations, and positions. The correspondences of incentive systems of biotechnology R&D professions were significantly different within their locations and positions. The organizational commitments of biotechnology R&D professions were significantly different within their ages, education, working seniority, departments, locations and positions. 3. Only emotional personality trait of biotechnology R&D professions had a reverse correlation in the importance and correspondence of incentive systems. The other types of personality traits were in a positive correlation. Personality traits and incentive systems were all in a positive correlation with organizational commitments. 4. Personality traits and incentive systems could effectively predict organizational commitments. Finally, recommendations based on the findings and conclusions of the study were made for the biotechnology industry organizations that have to pay attention on personality traits before staffing and improving incentive systems to ensure upgrade their organizational commitments.
