In this study, we examine the electrostatic streaming instability based on the one-dimensional electrostatic full particle numerical code. The applications include the plasma sheet boundary layer of the Earth’s magnetosphere, where the electron beams may encounter the background plasma, and the Gamma-ray burst, where high speed plasma may encounter the interstellar plasma. We vary the ratio of the beam drift velocity to the speed of light, the ratio of the beam thermal velocity to the drift velocity, and the mass ratio of the ion to electron to examine the relations between these parameters and the formation as well as the characteristics of the electrostatic solitary waves.
