Thirty-four subjects participated in this study, including eight pitchers (average 20.1 years old), eighteen hitters (average 19.7 years old), and eight non-athletic college students (average 23.1 years old). All subjects were tested using the computerized posturography (Smart Balance Master version 5.00, NeuroCom International, Inc). In that, ninety percent of the Limits of Stability (LOS) will be tested. The reaction time, movement velocity, endpoint excursion, maximum excursion, and directional control were assessed. MANOVA for repeated measures was adopted to analyze the difference of the result of the LOS test. The result demonstrated no significant difference in the LOS test among the three groups. In the directional analysis, different degree lateralization in front-back or right-left direction among the three groups was noticed. Marked lateralization effect was found in COG velocity and reaction time but not in COG direction control. This effect may attribute to the technique of exercise. To date, balance in athletes is seldom investigated. The current work provides some preliminary data, and further investigation is warranted to clarify the underlying mechanism.
