Using wireless network distance between people can be shortened and the realization of global village can be achieved. Deployment of 802.16 in urban area can benefit the network company in term of reducing the wire deployment cost. With transmission range over 30 miles, 802.16 can provide telecommunication for country with less developed infrastructure and area that is hard to deploy wire line such as mountain or dessert. In the 802.16 architecture, we have a Base Station (BS) and several Subscriber Stations (SS). The communication between BS and SS is connected by wireless media. Each subnet (for example: 802.11) is connected under a SS. In 802.16 network environment, mobile host will execute handoff procedure when mobile host moves from old network to new network. Packet lost and handoff delay will occur during handoff process. We use the mobility management scheme introduced for 802.11 wireless networks such as multicast-based and predictive mechanisms to reduce packet lost during handoff in 802.16 wireless networks. In this paper, we propose a new mechanism based on multicast-based, predictive mechanism and using time point as consideration to reduce packet lost.
