But both natural and artificial vegetation become more and more fragmented because of urban sprawl, human behavior like trample or air pollution. The advantage of vegetation would become weaker even disappear as vegetation become more and more fragmented. In order to prevent urban vegetation form fragmentation, how to measure the fragmentation of urban vegetation is an important issue for urban planner. In this thesis, landscape metrics and radar statistical chart was used to measure the fragmented degree of vegetation of individual district in Tainan city form 1994 to 2004, and the vegetation data were derived individually from SPOT satellite images of 1994, 1998, 2001 and 2004. Although the result revealed that the fragmented degrees of vegetation of all districts in Tainan city couldn’t be determined except the An-ping district that fragmented degree was decreased, we knew the MPS metric decreased in most districts, which would make the fragmented degree rise. After mapping with vegetation data, land-use map and main plan of Tainan city, a plan with 17 areas and 9 lines as priority zone for greening was suggested.
