碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 建築學系碩博士班 === 93 === 　The study focus on the catalysts which can catalyze the urban vitality from the viewpoint of balance between urban conservation and development, and the catalysts are the historic elements defined in the thesis. In order to develop completely, it’s necessary to put together the urban structure of Yen-Cheng district by the defined elements. In the meantime, explicate the conservation meaning and developmental potentiality for definition. At last, integrate the historic conservation elements into groups, and promote them to catalyze Yen-Cheng development and vitality by the execution of urban design. 　　The following are the study contents of the thesis： 1.The historic development and urbanization process of Yen-Cheng district 　This chapter includes four sections: ‘Period of salt-pond reclamation’、‘Period of development in the harbor settlements’、‘Period of building harbor and urbanization’、 ‘Period of urbanization in the urban district’. Explicate the city history and the developing process、natural terrain and the growth of urban plain to realize the urbanization process of Yen-Cheng district. 2.The historic environment investigation and analysis of Yen-Cheng district 　The chapter focus on ‘Structure of urban space’、‘Monument and historic buildings’、‘Urban plan’、‘Land property’、‘Using condition of buildings’、 ‘Traffic condition’ and ‘Urban cultural and activity’ to investigate and collect concerned information. The information is to support and evidence the following research. 3.The definition and integration of the historic conservation and urban design elements of Yen-Cheng district 　Define the historic conservation and urban design elements of Yen-Cheng district and put them in the frame of urban structure. The next step is explicating their conservation meaning and developmental potentiality to give suggestion for urban policy and urban design in the future. 4.The study of urban design principals and suggestion of Yen-Cheng district 　Make the purpose of balance between urban conservation and development by analyzing the historic conservation elements and the environmental problems. Then, integrate the elements into groups and give concepts 、proper suggestions or concerned principals of urban design to make Yen-Cheng becoming a good city.
