Male KK/HlJ mice are good metabolic disorder animal models due to their moderate obesity, hyperglycemia, and glucose intolerance properties. In this study, female KK/HlJ mice were used to explore their metabolic symptoms. After fed with high-fat diet, female KK/HlJ mice showed high blood glucose concentration and glucose intolerance. These results indicated that female KK/HlJ mice fed with high-fat diet could also be used as an abnormal metabolic animal model. Female ICR mice fed with high-fat diet were then studied. Higher fasting glucose and leptin concentration were found after high-fat diet induction. In tissue chromium distribution, after high-fat diet induction, female ICR mice showed a tendency of lower chromium content in bone, and significantly higher chromium concentration in blood than control group. Reduced chromium discharged from urine was also found in high-fat fed group. Since chromium ingestion in both groups are about equal, and high-fat diet can cause abnormal metabolism. As needed by increased metabolism, chromium is released from bone into blood, and is redistributed to other tissues.
