The key porphyrin 26 with two xanthene bridges at .meso position 10 and 20 has been synthesized, Both cis- and trans-forms of porphyrin 26 were successfully converted to the corresponding chiral porphyrins by reacting with chiral amines. The CD spectra of the chiral porphyrins cis-26(R) and cis-26(S) Show perfect mirror images of each offer. The selective binding with chiral amines and asymmetric epoxidations using the chiral metalloporphyrins will be dissussed . The synthesis of the porphyrin with an amidine group hanging near the porphyrin center has also been synthesized . The iron hydroxide complex of this amidine porphyrin may be used as catalyst for the water splitting reaction.
