However, to achieve similar dimming effects on energy saving fluorescent lamp is met with much difficulty. The objective of this paper is to present a technique developed by the author used to control the brightness (dimming effects) of energy saving fluorescent lamp. This technique revolves around a single chip CPU built within the fluorescent lamp. Simulation of the dimming effects can be achieved with much accuracy using PSPICE software. The PSPICE program directly translates different power voltages (the various stages of brightness /dimming) into minute periods of power on/off pulses and thus resulting in the ‘dimming effects’ of the energy saving fluorescent lamp. Laboratory test results have shown the brightness of energy saving fluorescent lamp can be controlled with a high degree of accuracy using PSPICE simulation.
