While how to increase revenue and reduce expenditure has become one of the major challenges in hospital administration, it has long been considered important alternative for a hospital to outsource Pharmacy. This paper, taking one military hospital as a case, to evaluate the alternative of Pharmacy outsourcing in military hospitals. Value chain, transaction cost and resource-based theories were firstly used to formulate various business model of Pharmacy outsourcing based on the process analysis. Consequently, four outsourcing models are developed, including the current system. Moreover, this paper evaluates the four outsourcing models through cost-benefit analysis with the real data from military hospital. Finally, this paper presents five propositions to serve as a reference for military hospitals when making their decisions on Pharmacy outsourcing problem. To conclude, this paper demonstrates how to systematically evaluate Pharmacy outsourcing problem in a military hospital. It was expected this study could provide useful information for the military hospital when making their decisions on Pharmacy outsourcing problem.
