碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 經濟學系碩士班 === 93 === Drinking can be an important part of life. When socializing with other people, drinking is a kind of polite and indispensable ceremony. In general belief, drinking could promote social communication and relieve pressure. For this reason, alcohol sometimes is over-used and becomes a commonly seen mental problem in Taiwan society. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the behavior of alcoholism from the economic point of view and the focus is on the influence of socioeconomic factors on alcoholism. Based on the Taiwanese government statistics, data from 23 district areas are collected to perform the empirical analyses. Data time span includes year 1997 to 2003. The empirical analyses show that unemployment rate have positive influence on alcoholism. The more alcoholism has more negative influence on health condition.
