Through the studying of how core competence and business strategies of news websites affect customer performance, this paper also provides suggestions to the industry on how to enhance the management of them. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches are simultaneously conducted in this research. For the qualitative approach, it involves the conduction of many in depth interviews.These interviews mostly comprise of high level executives from Chinatimes and Udnnews. The topic of discussion encompasses the respective website’s core competence and business strategy planning. This information is later employed in verifying the quantitative results. The quantitative approach consists of online internet questionnaires for people who have been to the news websites of Chinatimes or Udnnews. From the user’s perspective, the websites operation efficiency are explored by investigating the core competence, the business strategy, degree of satisfaction and loyalty, along with several other aspects. A statistical method is further performed to analyze how the core competence and business strategy affects customer performance. Results of this research are delineated as follows: 1.News websites of Chinatimes and Udnnews: Comprises mostly of male students who range between 21-30years old with a university education, and a monthly income below 20,000N.T. Daily internet use is approximately 2-5 hours. 2.Chinatimes:Different demographic statistical changes in the users produce differ- ent appraisals of the news website’s core competence and business strategy. The core competence’s “service of content”, and the business strategy’s “professional reporting”, seems to have a more obvious influence on customer performance. 3.Udnnews: Different age groups and levels of education produce varied evaluations of the website’s core competence and business strategy.
