It was composed of three main parts: the purpose of evaluation, the methods and procedures of evaluation and the criteria of evaluation. Research instruments adopted in this study included analysis literature view and questionnaires survey. First, the relative literature was collected to discuss the foundations and connotations of the teacher’s attitudes toward teaching performance evaluations. Next, a stratified random sampling of 660 junior high school teachers in Taipei City and Taipei County were chosen to do the questionnaires. At last, Arithmetic Mean, Standard Deviation, T-test, One-way ANOVA were applied to analysis the data. The results of the study were summarized as follows: 1. The aims of teaching performance evaluations which the junior high school teachers considered the most important were: giving teachers opportunities to examine their teaching, promoting teachers’ specialty and self-growth, raising teachers’ teaching qualities, and affirming teachers’ performance. 2. The ways and evaluators of teaching performance evaluations which the junior high school teachers considered the most important were: self-evaluations by the teacher themselves. Evaluations by the senior colleague. Evaluations by the school administrators. 3. The methods of collecting the data of teaching performance evaluations were: using the teacher self-evaluation sheets, observing teacher’s behaviors in the classroom, and interviewing the teacher’s teaching ideas and attitudes. 4. The applications of the evaluation results which the junior high school teachers considered the most important were: the references of promoting teachers’ specialty and teaching qualities, the principles of on-job training, the bases of “career ladder program of the teachers”. 5. The most important criteria of teaching performance evaluations were: realizing the whole teaching contents of the subjects, expressing speeches clearly, participating in the activities of teacher self-growth, offering feedback to students’ performance, employing consulting skills to treat students fairly, and sharing teaching opinions with the colleague. 6. There were differences in teachers’ attitudes toward the principles of teaching performance evaluations due to their different backgrounds. According to the above results, some suggestions were submitted to the educational authorities, teacher training institutions, senior high school and junior high school teachers.
