Therefore, the chewing of betel quid contributed to the risks of having oral cancer, and also had a substantial role in the occurrence of potential health effects. But the mechanism of carcinogenicity is still unclear. In order to reveal the mechanism, in this primary study, we detected the gene expressions of human gingival fibroblast after 24 hours of treatment of areca nut extract (200ug/mL), by DNA microarray. In this result, the total up-regulation and down-regulation expression gene is 7 and 712, respectively. The expression genes relate to metabolism of areca nut extract are CYP4V2, CYP26B1, NAT5. Our results support the evidence that CYP4V2, CYP26B1, NAT5 could involve in carcinogenicity of areca nut extract in oral cavity. Besides suggesting the CYP4V2, CYP26B1, NAT5 involved in the carcinogenicity of betel quid chewing, our study design could provide some value information in understanding the mechanism of possible carcinogen.
