It has been reported individually that each plant exhibited good free radical scavenging activity. This research aimed to disclose the bioactivities of SH, and used permutation and combination methods to find out a better formula as an anti-oxidant agent. 24 compounds were isolated from the SH, including seven anthraquinones:physcion (5), chrysophanol (6), emodin (20), aloe-emodin (21), pulmatin (9), chrysophanein (10), and 1-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-emodin (11);two naphthalenes:torachrysone-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (7) and 6-hydroxymusizin-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (8);five flavonoids:baicalein (17), 5,6,7-trihydroxy-2′-methoxyflavone (19), 5,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxyflavone (18), (+)-catechin (12), and (-)-epicatechin-3-O-galloyl ester (13);two phenolic glycosides:lindleyin (14) and 4-(4′-hydroxyphenyl)butan-2-one-4′-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (15);one stilbene:resveratroloside (16);one diterpene:phytol (1);five steroids:β-sitosterol (2), stigmasterol (3), sitostenone (4), β-sitosteryl-3-O-β-D-glucoside (22), and stigmasteyl-3-O-β-D-glucoside (23);one fatty acid: palmitic acid (24). In addition, the fingerprints of SH and each plant were established by HPLC, and the isolates of SH were analyzed by comparing their retention time. Qualitative and quantitative of SH and each plant were also analyzed. The EA fraction of SH showed significant antioxidant activity, which was two times stronger than vitamin E (α-tocopherol). Besides, the “50% EtOAc:50% MeOH” fraction also shown cytotoxicity toward liver cancer cells(Hep 3B、Hep G2), breast cancer cells(MDA-MB-231、MCF 7) and lung cancer cell(A 549).
