However, safety of patients relies on the establishment of culture in our circumstance This study aims at: 1. To understand of the present conditions and the difference of safety culture in different kinds of hospitals. 2. To investigate the effects of personal characteristics in recognition of safety culture in hospitals. 3. To investigate the effects of working field in recognition. 4. Investigation of the recognition of safety culture among the ranks in hospitals. 5. Using the data for improvement and for administrator in hospital and further study. Method: Using patient safety culture survey sheet afforded by Agency for Health care Research and Quality (AHRQ) to undertake this study. Respondents included members of Internal, Surgical and other specialized departments from 4 teaching hospital in Kaohsiung. Analysis was done using SPSS 10.0 version for windows, including frequency percentile, means for descriptive statistic analysis, t-test, variance analysis and LSD for post-hoc comparison. Result and Discussions: 1. There are differences in recognition of patient safety culture in different hospitals. 2. The recognition of safety culture of medical doctor is lower a other medical staff. 3. The aged have higher recognition of safety culture compared to the youth. 4. The senior have higher recognition of safety culture compared to the junior. 5. The leaders of unit have higher recognition of safety culture than the non-leaders. 6. There´s no differences in education background. Conclusions and suggestions: 1. Medical doctors have lower tendency of recognition of safety culture than others: It is suggested to set up a medical education program to help the doctors realize the importance of safety culture. 2. Patient safety custom should be covered by into training courses in hospital, and routine training and checking should be done. 3. Patient safety culture survey sheets can be applied to assess and improve the method for patient safety work. 4. The leaders should support the fulfillment of patient safety culture.
