Summary: | 碩士 === 義守大學 === 管理研究所碩士班 === 93 === Taiwan’s health care industry became complicated, since the National Health Insurance Bureau in Taiwan implemented the global budget system for health care providers in 2002. The NHIB’s ultimate goal is to spend less for better care. In order to analyze the numerous variables, hospital managers have to simultaneously visualize the process, outcome and the projected expenses for cost-effectiveness.
The purpose of this study were to analyze and compare the medical resource utilization in the treatment of patients with head injuries treated in medical centers, and to understand the differences and effects of the demographics of the patient population and hospitals’ facilities. This is a retrospective study using the secondary data obtained from the NHIB databank. In total, 11,987 patients with head injuries and treated in medical centers in 2002, i.e., with diagnoses of ICD-9-CM 800-804, and 850-854 were selected as study population.
The results revealed that ownership, locality, age, gender, craniotomy, discharge status, complexity and severity of illness had significant influences on the utilization of medical resources. Health care managers should pay attention to the findings of this study and respond accordingly. The NHIB policy makers should control the cost effectively and distribute medical resources rationally.
