The purpose is to prepare a non toxic, low smoke density and flame retarded material. After SBS were filled with fire retardant, it was molded to suitable size and shape. Then the physical properties of specimen were measured. TGA and UL94 were used to test the thermal and combustion behavior of SBS. The results reveal that SBS has a good flame retardability (UL94 V-0 1.6 mm) when it was filled with 60% of inorganic flame retardant but result in poor physical properties. The incorporation of silane coupling agent and cross-linking agent can improve physical properties of SBS. The optimal portion of silane and cross-linking agent in the SBS are 5 phr and 1.25 phr, respectively. P-N intumesce type flame retardant also reveals similar results, SBS filled with 60% intumesce type flame retardant can reach the standard of UL94 V-0 (1.6 mm) but the physical properties become poor. The portion of melamine and pentaeythritol in SBS are the main factor to influence the physical properties. When melamine or pentaeythritol is increase, they can decrease the physical properties.
