As the life insurance industry promote the market, people start to aware the necessitate of the insurance and increase insurance expenditure. This study is based on “The survey of family income and expenditure in Taiwan area of Republic of China, 2003” conduct by Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics Executive Yuan of R.O.C. as the main source of data. The characteristic of region, family composition and economic characteristic and economical head of household on family life insurance expenditure have been studied. Correlation analytic method, classification and regression tree (CART), logistic regression model are employed as the methods of research to find out the characteristics of family life insurance expenditure. This research found that the major factors influence the life insurance expenditure of the family are age, occupation, educational attainment, marital status, type of families, disposable income and region. It indicated that the age of household head is negatively correlated to purchase life insurance, while educational attainment and disposable income are positively correlated to purchase life insurance. Based on the finding, the life insurance industry should take different marketing strategies according to the characteristics of age, educational attainment, and income of the family.
