Summary: | 碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 建築與都市計畫所 === 93 === Sugar factory, facilities and premises belongs to Taiwan Sugar Corporation did not lose its function when it stopped making sugar because sugar business faded gradually. Rather, facing the change of business environment and government economic strategy, sugar factories in some regions have transformed to a new stage -tourist business. Taiwan Sugar Corporation attempts to transfer traditional occupation into a tourist one by using its massive land resources and strive the process of land development; transformation and diversification which can built a new way to survive and maintained its original culture.
This research takes Yuei-Mei sugar factory for example not only for it is a transformed sugar factory located in Taichung county but also the northernmost sugar factory belongs to Taisugar corporation. In order to preserve Taisugar’s industrial culture, to promote the transformation to tourist business, and to protect employees’ profits, after stop making sugar, Yuie-Mei sugar factory utilized its own site, factories and transportation facilities to make it a special tour place.
This research focused on a traditional industry’s economic worth before transformation and a subtle relationship between area and industry caused by economic impact after transformation. Yuie-Mei sugar factory once had been the area’s biggest company and Ho-Li peoples’ employer after the government authority transformed from Japan. However, after decade of economic change, traditional sugar industry has lost its competitiveness. To sum up, by applying economic impact algorithm,which proves that the revenue of the town attributed by sugar factory did not decrease when traditional industry utilized multiple running into a tourist industry.
