However, the real seas is a random phenomenon composed of various components with different wave height and periods. Hence, a monochromatic significant wave to describe the random seas is rather unreal. In this study, wave spectrum is adopted to describe the real seas, it is decomposed into several components by using spectrum slicing method. Each spectral component is treated as a regular wave. The profile of wave runup that proposed by Cross (1972) was applied to the calculation of the overtopping rate in each components. And then the overtopping rate can be obtained by integrating those overtopping rate of components. Basing on the experimental result and overtopping characteristics of weir, a correction factor of for smooth sloping dike is suggested to revise the calculating overtopping rate by Cross’s theory (1972). The results reveal that the computing overtopping rate by spectrum slicing method is more reasonable than that by significant wave method as comparing with the experimental data. It can be concluded that the spectrum slicing method is more suitable to computing overtopping rate. And the experiment results reveal show that increasing the crest height and crest width can decrease the overtopping rate. An empirical result regarding overtopping and dike slope and reflection coefficient of dike etc. is relative in this study. Chao-Fu Lin 林朝福 2005 學位論文 ; thesis 63 zh-TW
