Summary: | 碩士 === 朝陽科技大學 === 幼兒保育系碩士班 === 93 === This research is to probe into the academic performances and the social status of children in the first and second graders, whom one of their parents comes from Mainland China or Southeast Asia. The purpose is (1) to study the social status and academic performances of children of female immigrant spouses. (2) to analyze these children’s characteristics, in order to find out which traits are accepted by the peers and which of it are not. (3) to observe how the family background would made impact on these children. (4) to understand the interrelationship of these children’s social status and academic performances. 713 1st-and-2nd-grade children are measured by peer sociometry and questionnaires, in which 58 are of female immigrant spouses, 655 are of native nationality. Another 58 from the native group that has similar background with female immigrant spouses are selected as pair group to make comparison.
From the research result, in social status aspect, there are no obvious differences between three groups in the following 5 social status subgroups: being welcomed, being rejected, being controversial, being ignored and common people group. The peer-welcomed characteristics of children of female immigrant spouses are appearance, shared interests when playing together, personality, being to share with others, excellent personal capability, ability to collaborate with peers and so on. However, being aggressive and bad control over temper are the main reasons for children of female immigrant spouses for not having a good peer relationship. Besides, after getting control over the variations in family background and academic performances, under the comparison with native group and pair group, though children of foreign nationality spouse are less likely to be welcomed by the peers, they’re not more likely to be rejected by the peers.
In academic aspect, comparisons between three groups shows that there’s also no clear difference in the following 5 curriculum, which are: Mandarin, Mathematics, Life-related courses, composite activities and health/physical education. In addition, controlling the variations of family background and social status simultaneously, children of female immigrant spouses usually outperforms local nationality children in life-related courses, but having no difference comparing to the pair group that has similar family background. The
research result differs from the media and the public recognition.
Based on the results, this research make three proposes: to elevate the balance of the media, and improve the inflexible impression against the female immigrant spouses and children; the school should fulfill and enrich the life-related courses and personality education so that children can make fine development in the society, and promote the equilibrium in government education resources allocation, and let children of the same social status to have equal education resources.
