Two optical techniques, amplitude-fluctuation electronic speckle pattern interferometry (AF-ESPI) and laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV), are employed to measure the vibration modes. The resonant frequencies of the piezoceramic composite plates are also measured by an impedance analyzer. It is shown that only the resonant frequencies of in-plane vibration can be obtained by the impedance analysis, and that the resonant frequencies of out-of-plane vibration are determined by the LDV system. However, both resonant frequencies and mode shapes for out-of-plane and in-plane vibrations are simultaneously measured by the AF-ESPI method. The numerical calculations are also obtained using the finite element method (FEM) and the results agree comparatively well with the experimental measurements. According to the numerical calculation, the variations in resonant frequencies versus the various piezoceramics-thickness ratios and electrode distribution are also discussed for the first several modes in the work.
