Five inclined angles of the butt welding were considered in the experimental program. Local stress approach was employed in evaluating the fatigue life of weldments in the present study. The finite element method was useed to simulate the stress/strain behavior of the weldment and the locations for crack initiation were obtained by examining the von Mises stress results from the numerical analysis. Four fatigue life prediction models were utilized in the study to calculate the fatigue life of the welment by using the local stress/strain calculated from the finite element analysis.
