A cross-sectional design was used. One hundred and sixty one HBV carriers were interviewed with structured questionnaires in the outpatient department of intestines at a Regional Hospital in Northern Taiwan. The instruments included the demographic data, knowledge of HBV scale, perceived health status scale, and social support scale. Data were analyzed by the x2, t-test, multiple linear regression and multiple logistic regression. The results of this study were as below: (1) sixty percent of HBV carriers had done the ultrasound regularly. (2) The correct rate of knowledge of HBV was 70%. Overall perceived health status was fair. Overall social support was above average. (3) The ultrasound of hepatocellular carcinoma was significant different in age, marital status, family/friend had hepatic disease or not, perceived health status, and social support. (4) The multiple logistic regression analysis indicates that marital status and family/friend had hepatic disease or not could predict 43.2% (Nagelkerker R2) of the total variances in the utilization of ultrasound of hepatocellular carcinoma for HBV carriers. (5) Social support could predict 4.6% of the total variances in the utilization of ultrasound of hepatocellular carcinoma for HBV carriers. HBV carriers who were single, family/friend with hepatic disease, and lower social support, health education should be provided to them in order to increase the behavior of receiving ultrasound of hepatocellular carcinoma regularly for HBV carriers. The purpose of this study was to examine the utilization of ultrasound of hepatocellular carcinoma for the Hepatitis B Virus carriers.
