Abstract The thesis attempts to explore the teaching image in educational films of New Age. The analysis of this study is based on bell hooks’ educational perspective of teaching to transgress, and by means of film narrative methodology, to search for an interpretative idea from the teaching implications in educational films. Finally, attain the consummate educational thoughts within dialectical and boundaries-crossing understandings. Concretely, the purposes of this thesis are as follows: 1. To explore the shown and hidden teaching implications in educational films. 2. To analyze the possibilities of teaching to transgress and mutual engaging of teachers and students. 3. To reflect a dialectical and engaged teaching image through media, theory and experiences. According to the analysis of these five films, “Billy Elliot”, “Mona Lisa smile”, “I not stupid”, “School of rock” and “Les choristes”, the finding of this thesis are as follows: 1. The implications of teaching to transgress would depend on each themes or situations of films. 2. Teaching to transgress intents to the flexible perspectives of teaching goals, teacher roles, teaching methods and love in the educational processes. 3. Engaged minds are the interaction of teachers and students in teaching to transgress. 4. Following teaching faith and switching teaching methodology are consummate educational thoughts. Based on the research findings, the recommendations are as follows: 1. For teachers (1) Teachers can try multiple experiences to improve their boundaries-crossing view. (2) Teachers should be more sensitive to the educational implications in media texts. (3) Teacher and students have to be the real hosts of classroom. 2. For researchers (1) To widen the educational research and to look for the teaching ideas in films. (2) Film narrative methodology could be a new approach to do educational research. (3) Trying any alternative texts in oncoming educational research. (4) Consulting with the film directors and audiences to promote the appropriateness of film narrative study.
