In this thesis, a loop analysis method is proposed. Based on this novel method, a polynomial algorithm for optimal capacitor sizing is presented. This method deals with the minimization of two items, namely, the minimization of both the real power losses of distribution feeders and the investment cost of compensation capacitors. These two items are combined to become one objective function to be optimized and the flow currents are selected as modeled variables. It is known that the branch flow current is a function of the node injection flow current. The relationship between the branch flow current and the node injection flow current is simple and direct in loop analysis algorithms for radial or meshed distribution systems. Therefore, choosing the loop analysis algorithm for distribution network analysis and optimization can be used to minimize the system losses and to reduce the total investment cost. Furthermore, this algorithm can find out an optimal or near optimal solution. Since only a few iterations are needed to get the final solution in the calculation, this algorithm is efficient enough and can be used in real-time environment for large-scale distribution systems operation. Lastly, the results of simulation verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach in benefiting the operating cost and improving the power- supply quality for distribution systems. 碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 電機工程研究所 === 93 === The problem of capacitor placement includes determining the location, type and size of compensation capacitors.
