It has been used not only to worship our ancestors, but also used for the calm of mental. The durability of Credence is very good. Since the Credence manufacturers keep the method as a secret, the methods for making the credence are not the same from one place to another, from age to age, and from manufacturer to manufacturer. Furthermore, the methods developed recently are quite complex and delayed. It is very important to write a book in the title of“The history of Credence”or “The traditional manufacture of Credence in Taiwan”. It is hard to fulfill this dream due to the lack of information, However, if we don’t do it today, it will be more difficult in the future. The traditional manufacture of Credence is declining day by day.
In order to know the repairments and the methods of making Credence, we have polled from the artists and visited the Credence manufacturers in Taiwan. We have looked into the customs and manufacture of the Credence in Taiwan, and then picked out the specimens of Credence for a further investigation and advices. The information of the Credence classification, source of the materials, tools, manufacturing process, and the quantity of the Credence can be referenced for the future manufacturers or researchers.
It is also very important to investigate the material of Credence, including the styles, the rules, the meanings, the preservation and additive. In this study, we should discuss the value and the existence of credence in religions. We hope the Credence study will make contribution to our cultural conversation.
