Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 視覺傳達設計系碩士班 === 92 === Through varieties of explanatory labels, museums will deliver richer and more interesting scientific knowledge to the audience. Explanatory label is one of the most important communication media, for its functions as informing, explaining, and designating the information as well as communicating. Explanatory labels in “The Physical World” at the National Museum of Natural Science were taken as samples of the study to probe into how to design effective pictorial and textual information to achieve and develop functions of museums as educators and places to learn.
The results of the study are as follow:
Effective ways to display explanatory labels in order to arouse in audience are as follow: 1.Explanatory labels should contain pictorial and textual instructions for exposition. 2.Illustrations of explanatory labels should display scientific fundamentals or physical phenomenon of
the exhibits. 3.The relationship between the illustration and typography should be differed clearly. Using drawing
boards will simplify the appearance of the exhibits. 4.Illustrations of explanatory labels should state appearances of the exhibits after being operated. 5.Positions of displays of explanatory labels should make a straight angle to make the audience to be
able to look at the exhibits steadily.
6.Illustrations should be interesting and expressed in pictures often used in daily lives.
7.Displays of illustrations should include instructions and scientific knowledge. 8.Contents of illustrations and exhibits should be coherent, since it makes the audience to more easily
understand and identify. 9. Illustrations should contain simple textual explanations to help audience to understand the
information delivered. 10.Pictorial instructions should be divided into each frame of displays, as the audience will have
eagerness to read. 11.Successive illustrations of instructions can be helpful for the audience to operate the proper
procedures. 12.Information contained in explanatory labels should be simple, brief, and arousing audience''''s
eagerness to read them. 13.The amount of textual information in explanatory labels should be appropriate and reasonable,
should not make any burden and antagonistic feeling or antipathy to the audience while reading. 14.Explanatory labels should content headlines and annotations for each paragraph so that they can be
differed clearly. 15.Space between the text and illustration parts should be appropriately under control in order to avoid
the pictures and texts to intermeddling each other.
