The development of computer systems, Internet and World Wide Web facilitated a new way of “learning through network” (known as electronic learning or e-learning). By learning through network students can have a learning environment with less restriction of timing and location as long as they have an access to Internet to carry on their learning. The advance of the multimedia technologies enriched e-learning contents by adding audio, image, animation, and video to text and graphics. Network bandwidth and disk I/O capacity are the bottlenecks of the asynchronous e-learning service environment. And hence when the content is composed of a great deal of multimedia data, possibly due to the limitation of network bandwidth and/or disk I/O capacity, students’ learning result will be downgraded. Therefore, how to provide a good e-learning environment via maintaining a fast network and efficient disk I/O is an important issue. In this thesis research, we focus our efforts on examining the effect of the network bandwidth and disk I/O capacity.
