This research centers the discussion upon the participation condition and the obstruction factors of recreational sports among elementary school students in Taipei city. The questionnaire, named “The Investigation on the Participation Condition and the Obstruction Factors of Recreational Sports among Elementary School Students,” was devised by the researcher as a tool and issued to 14 elementary schools in Taipei. With the percentage and the times counted, 731 questionnaires issued were analyzed to help understand the participation condition of recreational sports. Through factor analysis, the factors of recreational sports as well as the obstruction are discussed. Moreover, Chi-square test was applied to examine whether marked discrepancies (p<.05) exist in the participation condition of recreational sports between sexes and among differed grades and groups, whereas “t” test was utilized to analyze whether marked discrepancies (p<.05) exist in the obstruction factors of recreational sports between sexes and among differed grades and groups. Thus such conclusions after the analysis and discussion out of the survey are as followed.
1. The most popular sport: cycling
2. Time and hours: 31~60 minutes, mostly in the afternoon
3. Companion(s): family members
4. Frequency: more than 5 times weekly
5. Place: the sports ground at school
6. Purpose: to stay healthy
7. Transportation: walking
8. Time spent for transportation: within 10 minutes
9. Source of related information: relatives and friends
The top 5 obstruction factors are weather, heavy school workload, health condition, time, and safety.
Between sexes and among differed grades and groups, marked discrepancies are formed up to standard in sports item, place, hours, length of time, and companion. On the other hand, the obstruction to participation of recreational sports is below discrepancy standard. However, marked discrepancies of obstruction in differed grades are observed that result from relatives, friends, and external factors, while those in differed groups from individual, recreational resource, and external factors.
Key words: Recreational Sports, Obstruction Factors
