Until 1985, as Gorbachev began with the “New Political Thinking” revolution, desisted from “Brezhnev Doctrine” and took few control of Eastern European communist states.Following Gorbachev's revolution, Eastern European communist parties started with the democratic revolution, they not only renewed structures and programs, also held free election and built democratic regime. Certainly, the wave of democratic revolution also changed SED leadership's position, they began with the revolution, which made the collapse of the Berliner Mauer and achieved the unity of Germany. The division of Two Germany after forty years finally united on 3. October 1990. With the influence of democratic revolution of GDR and the Unity of Germany, SED renamed as Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) and renewed structures and programs for the exist and development in the united German party system. Initially, PDS was considered by disappearing with GDR, however, contrary to the expectation, PDS developed steadily and increasingly influenced on the other parties and German party system. Furth, besides CDU and SPD, PDS is also one of the main political power in east Germany. This thesis is divided into five chapters and the structure is as follows: Chapter 1 is introduction. Chapter 2 reviews the development of SED and researches the transition of PDS. Chapter 3 researches the structures and programs of PDS. Throw the analysis of the statute and program of PDS to comprehend the renewed orientation and aspects. Chapter 4 researches the development of PDS in the united Germany. By dealing with the election program and voting of PDS in the elections for the united German government to analyze its development and the role.in the German party system.
