Based on this approach, we can enhance the relationship between bibliographies, enrich the search results, and supply the fuzzy SDI service for the readers. In the first, we survey various fields, such as classification, catalogue, metadata, fuzzy theory, MARC, Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI), and subject headings. Next, based on fuzzy theory model, the definition of Fuzzy Metadata is proposed. Furthermore, we develop a practical approach for fuzzy classification and cataloging, and register the Fuzzy Metadata into the bibliographic database with CMARC (Chinese MARC) that consists with the ISO2709 standard. Afterward, in order to setup the relations between readers and bibliographies by different weight, we apply the fuzzy classification approach to readers. Moreover, we compose these fuzzy relations to provide personalize Fuzzy SDI; it has more choices than traditional SDI on filtering and sorting. We hope the Fuzzy SDI can provide the better results to commit readers’ requirements. Finally, we develop an experimental Fuzzy SDI system. It constructs the fuzzy relations for books and readers by Fuzzy Metadata. System users can get more information from the search results, learn more relationships between books, and find out those books.
