The antennas studied are polarized and excited by a 50Ω microstrip line, and are linearly polarized. There are two kind of folded slot antennas discussed, in the thesis: one is single folded slot antenna and the other is double folded slot antenna. As compared to a simple slot antenna, it is found that the bandwidth of a single folded slot antenna is slightly wider. In addition, double folded slot antennas can provide significantly wide bandwidth up to 34%, which serves as a good candidate for UWB application. The metallic contact between the microstrip line and the ground plane thought the via hole forms a short-circuit. The feeding via hole can reduce the cross polarization and the antenna size.
