However, without the help of AP in the ad hoc network, a station which attempts to transmit packets to other stations has to contend for sending beacon to become the controller of the network. The mechanism may result in some problems such as synchronization and large amount of broadcast messages. In this paper, a novel MAC protocol, Dribble-Formation MAC Protocol, is proposed to mainly select a suitable controller viewed as Supervisor for network management. Unlike the operation of IEEE 802.11, the proposed protocol has the following characteristics: (1) supervisors are the originators of broadcast packets; (2) different IBSSs can be merged to prevent the network from a part; (3) cluster-based routing protocols concerned in the network layer can be more efficient with the help of supervisors. To verify the performance of the proposed MAC protocol, a lot of simulations are performed. We verify the advantages of the proposed protocol by comparing with some existing schemes. The results show Dribble-Formation MAC Protocol has less broadcast packets, especially in the highly density networks. In addition, the protocol also conserves power and enhances the performance of synchronization in multi-hop MANETs. Kuei-Ping Shih 石貴平 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 84 zh-TW
