Summary: | 碩士 === 淡江大學 === 資訊工程學系 === 92 === We discuss the research and implementation of a browser for embedded environment in this paper. According to Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), am embedded systems are used to control, monitor, or assist the operation of equipment, machinery, or plants. The embedded system may be a part of the whole hardware equipment, or a machine; it may be also a form of software or firmware. Some are easy to distinguish their existence, and some are hidden in the device that makes us hard to distinguish their existence. Not every embedded system needs a browser, so the browser that implemented in this paper is for the consumptive and electronic devices. This kind of embedded system can roughly be divided into Personal/Mobile Model, family/entertainment/multimedia Model, and Enterprises/Networking Model. This kind of the consumptive and electronic devices are also called Information Appliance (IA). However, in this paper we discuss not only this kind of embedded system but also the kind of embedded system that has a user interface to operate and the network services. In the embedded system that offers the network services, browser becomes the most convenient interface between users and Internet. Because of cost, most consumptive and electronic devices have some limitations on hardware. With the limitations of hardware, we meet some problems that not to meet in the desktop. The browser can also offer some additional functions besides browsing web. The browser is regard as a middle-layer software. We can base on it and develop other applications in the embedded system. In this paper, we discuss the problems, which we may meet in the embedded system, and compare the advantages and the disadvantages in the current browsers. And we do some analyses and offer a method of implementation. At last we offer a complete process for implementing a browser in the PDA environment.
