Shock and surprise were widespread in the wake of the disruptive protests and associated violence in the Seattle World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference in 1999. In the panel discussion they spoke of how the global business environment has changed dramatically in the last 20 years. Countries around the world have gone from eagerly seeking out American business expansion into their countries to a rapidly growing anti-American and anti-globalization attitude. American brands are particularly regarded as harmful because of the perception that: American brands have a corrupting influence in changing their culture through aggressive marketing and advertising of non-local traditions and a push for hyper consumerism. The receiving country unfavorable perception of American values. Globalism has generally been increasing throughout modern history and it is this process of increasing globalism that is called globalization. Globalization in economic, social, and military affairs contribute to the environmental globalization ─the increase of movement between continents of pollutants and species. Of the many environmental challenges found around the world, two in particular are driven by environmental interactions between continents: the loss of biological diversity and the increase of global atmospheric pollution. All three global atmospheric pollution issues currently rank among the most dangerous environmental threats facing our contemporary global society. Thomas B. Lee 李本京 2004 學位論文 ; thesis 109 zh-TW |
