However, third-agers are neglected in the information market for most of in-put devices are designed for younger generation. This research intended to explore usability and efficiency of computer input devices among older people by the thought of Universal Design. This research was carried out by means of interview and experiment. 72 older people were selected from classes in Taipei Community University and Institute of Elders in Taipei County. Research findings include: (1) Older people used an active pen more efficiently than a mouse. (2) The failure rate increased when the test group using an active pen, in the scenario of closed icons arrangement on screen pad. (3) The efficiency was low when icons were across arranged in both using an active pen and a mouse. (4) The close arrangement of tool bar icons caused low efficiency in both using an active pen and a mouse.
