The objective of this thesis is to design and implementation of Integrated Circuit (IC) for Brushless DC Motor (BLDCM) drives. This IC is focused on the improvement of Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) technique to reduce the connection loss of inverter. After comparing with conventional PWM technique to confirm efficiency improvement, the designed circuit is then implemented by IC. And therefore, the volume and cost of the hardware for the drives can be reduced.
The designed IC is verified preliminarily by the platform of Filed Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). And then the simulation and measured results derived by the associated software are used to verify the circuit design. Finally, the designed circuit is converted step by step to the associated technique file format requested by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacture (TSMC) for IC tape-out. The conversion process is carried out using the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools provided by the Center for Chip (CIC) based upon the process of 0.35 μm, two poly layers and four metal layers. The results show that the designed IC has the fault coverage up to 99.9%, and therefore confirming the design.
