The goal of Leisure farm is to provide the general public the experiences of agriculture and rural culture. The original purpose of leisure fames was to save rural area and solving the downgrading of agricultural operations. It opens part of the ranch during the slack season for recreational operation to general farmer’s revenue. However, some people misunderstood it’s original purpose and shift the focus on profit making to increase economic benefits. When larger amount of tourists crowded into the rural area, the water resource consumption increases suddenly. The discharges of waste water debase the water quality and pollute the environment. It also affects the tourism and living quality. This kind of operations diverge the good intension from the theories of sustainable agriculture, sustainable community and sustainable tourism. Recreation resource development and utilization need to maintain according with the ecological carrying capacity to provide tourist satisfaction without damaging the environment. The recent droughts within many areas in Taiwan have brought great attention to the issue of water resources. At the present day, irrigation takes the largest percentage of total water utilization. However, large amount of tourists crowded into leisure farms during weekends and holidays increases water requirement and result over utilization of water resource. In this research, we use water as discuss to analyze the water utilization within leisure farms. According the laws, leisure farm could be distinguished into tourism recreational area and agricultural operation experience area. The water utilization in tourism recreational area mainly use on accommodation, cooking, dinning, and lavatory. In general, the water usage in tourism recreational area is from tap-water. Thus, the larger amount of tourist, the higher water consumption needed. In agricultural operation experience area, water mainly being used for irrigation and domestic water for ranch operators. The water for farming is mainly from irrigation canal or groundwater, and domestic waster is from tap-water. The research of rainwater store system and constructed wetland system are mainly apply in a big city, and it focus on the water resource handling in residential, industrial and school areas. This research applies these two systems in leisure farms. First of all, we separate the farmland into three categories. Category 1 is general leisure Farms. Category 2 is leisure farms with rainwater store system which use rooftop as catchment area to increase water sources and reduce the water usage from other sources. It conforms to the concept of permaculture that many capabilities should be provided with many factors. Category 3 combines constructed wetland system besides sainwater store system to process the waster water into another kind of water resource. It also conforms to the concept of energy recycle in permaculture. This research compares the water resource utilization within these three categories, and analyzes which category tally with water resource utilization. We hope we can establish a managerial model of water resource in sustainable management of leisure farms and aid the water deficiency problem in Taiwan.
