Because of near urban district and the good living conditions, many people settled down here. And because the price of houses were rose and down, the structure of population changed from white-collar class to blue-collar class and became complex and diversified. There were 235 elders, 144 males and 91 females, in the community. The public space was not enough, so the sphere of the elders’ activities was usually at the activity center for the elderly and the local temple. The research focuses on three issues: the individual trait and life characteristic, the type of people grapping and other external causes that related to how the elderly use in public and private space. There were five methods analyzed in the study : literature review, in-depth interview, questionnaire survey, case study , and behavior setting. 1.Literature review: to gather information about the community and the elderly. 2.In-depth interview: to interview ten relative official by purposive sampling to identify the factors that influences families to settle down in this community, such as living, work, education, living conditions. When they getting old, there were different grouping among the elderly, using different space for leisure activities. The major external factors were public welfare policy, folk organization, elders’ healthy condition and public space in the community that influence the way of the elderly’s life. 3.Questionnaire survey: to approach 165 elders, 145 filled the questionnaire and 120 questionnaires were effective. The questionnaire asks the elder’s individual characteristic, grouping type, daily living space for exercise, living satisfaction and family’s caring behavior setting. 4.Case Study: utilized purposive sampling to select ten elders from the 120 effect questionnaires to process individual interview, to get some information that can not be seen in questionnaire and interview of local somebody. Research on different life style, provincial origin, family structure, occupation and physical mental condition that related to the difference of living and community space, and the neighborhood mutual help. And to find the similarity and difference among the cases. 5.Behavior setting survey: concluded the elders usually living and community exercise space by interview, questionnaires, case study and, and behavior setting survey to observe elders’ life cycle, activity pattern and coincident physical environment, including house and neighborhood. Via above investigation, we find that all of elders’ personal traits such as provincialism, sexuality, age, occupation, level of education and health condition may influence the way of their use community space. Secondly, elders’ attitude to life and, hobbies may form the difference of their grouping type. Other external factors such as relationships among family members, increase and decrease of family populations, health conditions of family economic may influence the elders to readjust their use of living space. And public welfare policy, folk organization and available public space in the community, all of these could influence the elders’ use of community space. In the final chapter, the researcher brings up some relative suggestions and wished the elders could “aging in place” in the community.
