More radio stations are evaluating the possibility to move since this will solve many problems all at once. Some radio stations have even moved more than one time. The most troubling issue during the relocation process is to find the proper location since the radio antenna will requires large area of land. The increasingly crowded Taiwan urban area also reduce the effectiveness of radio antennas when the city continues to expand. Since the strength of radio waves continue to be weakened, the need of relocation becomes increasingly important. There are several special highlights regarding the relocation of AM radio stations: long working days, complicated procedures and highly professional. The relocation process become even more complicated when standard operating procedures are usually not available for such operation. Mistakes are often unavoidable without the guidance from the experienced senior associates which results in longer working days and additional spending. Although the perfect case also exist, but the relocation of BCC Miao-Li AM station from 1989 to 1994 was one of the bestexample to illustrate such trial and error process. When the government took back the reserved ground in 1989, BCC was facing the danger of losing the radio station if it won't move. Since its antenna has been surrounded by countless buildings which blocked its signals in the recent years, BCC decided to relocate its Miao-Li AM station to solve all of the problems at once. Since the author participated with the relocation process of the Miao-Li station, this case will be used as the center focus of this report. This report will take a close look in two of the key area of relocation: land usage and facility building land usage will be break down into: the development of hill's land, main structure building , antenna installation, outdoor construction and etc. Administration process and key technical issues will be documented with special attention in this report. According to the survey in this report: 54% of the stations believe heir radio signals have improved significantly since the relocation, 46% of the stations received satisfactory results after relocation. None of the stations think it was a bad move since the relocation. However, the numbers are exactly the other way around among the stations which have not made the relocation yet. This has suggests the relocation is directly contributed to the improvement of radio signal strength. Radio stations which have never moved also has weaker signal compare with radio stations which have relocated. AM radio frequency can be interfered easily, but there are still many specialty radio stations fared well under the volatile society today. During the era of fierce competition among the medias, station relocation should be consider as a proper strategy to improve the competiveness of the radio station. Therefore, the difficult process of the BCC Miao Li station relocation can provide a lot of valuable lessons. The era of digital broadcasting has already arrived, the analog signals will be terminated soon. AM radio station and the complicated relocation process will all become history only when the face of radio industry is totally digitized. Station relocation has always been a complicated and costly project, but the AM radio operator never stopped to move into newer stations.
