碩士 === 東吳大學 === 中國文學系 === 92 === 【Key Word】Chi-Chun／Modern Novel 【Abstract】 The purpose of this dissertation is to examine how Chi-Chun sculptures the features in her novels and how she expresses her thinking and mind through her novels. Chapter 1 of introduction seeks to detail the motivation towards this research. Although Chi-Chun has an outstanding performance in the area of essays-composition for a long history, she in contrast seems to lose her platform as a novelist. Therefore, this dissertation furthers the previous research made by other researchers, and aims to ensure the literature value of Chi-Chun’s novels. In this chapter, the scope, the methodology, the results from previous research and the structure will be outlined. Chapter 2, the background of Chi-Chun’s novel-composition, is to discuss the formation and the emergence of Chi-Chun’s novels. Although it is inevitable to mention the influence of the time, the environment and her personal experience throughout the life, as these are the essence to affect her entire life and soul; indeed, these are also the reasons to construct Chi-Chun’s stand point of view towards literature. In the first and second section of this chapter, the discussion starts from the outer layer of her creation, pointing out “the time and the environment surrounding Chi-Chun” and “her experience gained from the environment”. Then, in the section three, the discussion turns to examine the stance towards the literature creation which affects the direction of her novels. Chapter 3, the main thinking and the inside meanings of Chi-Chun’s novel, concludes the basic topics, main minding, and inside aspiration from the views of “ feminism”, “ the suffering of the marriage in the feudal era”, “ the true love”, “ sensing the humanity, praising the good” , “ the feelings in the war period” and “ the characteristics of public officers”. Chapter 4, the features in Chi-Chun’s novels, aims to analyze the technique of portraying features by Chi-Chun from the angle of conversations, reflection and interaction among features in the novels, as well as symbolization, and reflection of these features. Chapter 5 provides a conclusion to ensure Chi-Chun’s position as a novelist by summarizing the meanings and real value of her novel’s themes and character-portrait.
