碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 藝術研究所美術組碩士在職專班 === 92 === In the history of Taiwanese Fine Art Movement, researches about the first-generation oil painting masters have been done thoroughly already. Due to The Second World War and the tension between two sides of the Taiwan Strait, there are not many artists devoting themselves in oil painting, which almost causes a blank in the fine art movement. Moreover, information about the second-generation masters is less for research and study. Thus, this thesis proposes the idea to construct theories and works of masters when they are available for better and more complete information. Dr. Hsu who went to France in 1970s studied and exhibited works in salons. Then he came back to Taiwan to teach and continue to create works, which influences students the view of modern art. Dr. Hsu’s talent and techniques are based on his interests in paintings since childhood and diligent study with effort. Moreover, he is a painter with various styles. In the twenty-first century, Dr. Hsu keeps working on post-cubism that makes his position in fine art today. His early styles and works show uncertainty; however, the self-searching is the necessary passage for work creating. By absorbing and thinking different elements in society, Dr. Hsu becomes more courageous to add new materials to his works that makes his works more stylish in each stage. This is what an artist reflects.
