The interviewees of this research are students of senior high schools in Taipei City and Taipei County, who have volunteered to participate in the survey in the past 6 months. The sampling method is to select ten schools at purpose, then choose twenty volunteer students from each grade randomly. The data we collected were analyzed carefully by several statistical ways ,including “descriptive statistics ”、“crosstabulation table ”、 “ reliability analysis”、 “factor analysis ”、 “t-test ”、 “one-way analysis of variance”、“Pearson product-moment correlation analysis ”、 “stepwise multiple regression ”. The result of this survey shows the following: First of all, six significant variances like gender, study area, type of school, leisure style, non-commercial association, type of voluntary job, religion play important roles in the motivations of volunteer service; the variances such as gender, study area, type of school, leisure time, leisure style, frequency of voluntary job play very important role in satisfaction after the volunteer service. However, the variances such as grade and type of personality are minor factors. Secondly, among the factors of motivation, “to gain social experience” has the highest score but “to take the social responsibility” has the lowest score. Among the factors of satisfaction, “social demand” is the highest but “tool property” is the lowest. There are also some motivations to participate the voluntary services such as “to become mature,” “to gain social experience,” “to live up to the expectation of others. Moreover, among the factors of satisfaction, “self development,” “social demand” and “the environment of organization” are also the variances. However, “tool property” plays a very minor role. Thirdly, the overall motivation and the overall satisfaction are strongly related. Students will have higher satisfaction if the motivation is stronger. To sum up, from the comparisons of the basic variances that affects high school students’ motivations and satisfactions, we found the motive and satisfaction to participate differ from the cognition and reality. It shows that education authority should promote the voluntary spirit of comprehension and selfless to obtain win-win situation of mutual benefits. In addition, education unit should encourage the middle school to establish a responsibility unit of service learning, and abolishes mandatory eight-hour services. Teachers also should encourage students instead of coerce them, teach them by example rather than preach.
